OSGeo Landcover Database Shapefile Download

Please read the corresponding NOTES on the fine OSGeo Wiki and use reasonable coordinates in order to avoid nasty error messages.

Caution: Your request including the client IP number will be logged in order to implement abuse prevention measures !

Download area limit: In order to prevent download jobs from growing too large, the download area is limited to 144 square-degrees. This means that you are permitted to download a 12x12 degree area in order to cover the typical 10x10 degree tile plus one degree extra at each border .... or download an area of 18x8 degrees, if you like.

Please don't forget to insert the proper signs: Use negative values for boundaries West of the null meridian and South of the Equator ....   ;-)

Be aware that downloading large areas of highly detailed layers might saturate your network connection for a looong period of time. For example just a tiny little 2x2 degree area of OSM data might end up at downloading more than 20 MByte (compressed!!) - thus resulting in approx. ½ GByte of compressed data for a simple 10x10 degree chunk.

Remember in this context, that there's a design limit which prevents Shapefiles from growing beyond 2 GByte. Attempts to exceed this limitation will therefore result in corrupt and useless Shapefiles.
